My Best Holiday Destination .... so far

Out of all the holidays I've had so far, the best I must say was to Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The first time I went was with hubby in 2006, just the two of us on "roughing-it-out" holiday. We stayed at a resthouse (which was predominately decorated in striking purple!) and had the time of our lives checking out the ruins and culture. Our tuk-tuk driver for the three days we stayed there also doubled as our guide and thanx to him we managed to escape the maddening tourist crowds and buses as he seemed to always know the best times to visit the different ruins while avoiding the crowds.

The second time we went we brought the kids along. It was in December 2008 and I was taking part in the Siem Reap Half Marathon. It was surreal running along the temple ruins and routes with the other runners. It was also fantastic to have my hubby and kids there as my loyal supporters. Though after the run I couldn't do much ruins exploring because of my sore legs! So what we ended up doing was what all Malaysians do best...jalan-jalan cari makan!! Amirul even had half a fried grasshopper (he vomitted out the second half, ha ha). Thorughout our stay we really pigged out. We had grilled freshwater fish and prawns, lots of kerabu with raw fish and sometimes with marinated raw meat sliced really thin, beef noodle soup, we even had a full complete cambodian meal cooked by the mufti of Siem Reap himself....oh, don't forget pisang goreng cooked fresh by the roadside!
